Chestnut trees for sure grows in Windsor Ontario.
I found a Chestnut tree one block away from where I live.
I was told that, she planted this chestnut from seed, many years back.
The Chestnut tree has lots of nuts, First time I'd seen one.
The tree is big and beautiful.
That was an answer to my question about my Chestnut tree planted from seed.

Is this a Chinese chestnut, or the American chestnut?

    Hello Skeeterbugs,

Who ounner of the Chestnut tree, only knows that see bought the Chestnut from the grocery store. Then, she put it in her refrigerator, after seeing it rooted,
took it out the following spring and planted this nut in front of her house.
This Chestnut tree is very beautiful and full of nuts considering there is only one tree.
Sorry I can't tell you the kind of Chestnut tree that is.

A grocery store chestnut is likely C. sativa, the European chestnut, hardy in Windsor but not terribly resistant to chestnut blight. Enjoy the tree while it's healthy.

Do the husks actually have nuts in them? Castanea species usually need cross pollination to bear nuts though a small % of the husks will have edible nuts.

    Hello Smivies,

    You may be right.
Yes the husks have nuts, the one that I pick from the tree, the husk are big,
they have nuts inside, there's 3 little nuts inside, at this time it's till very young.
I was told that at the end of October, will be ready.
The lady told me that the chestnut, when they start falling that means the nut are
    ready to eat.

    Thanks,
