My Asian pear grown indoors from seed is now 2 ft. tall I like planting any kind of seeds indoors. Still in a pot but now outdoors, for the summer. The trees looks good. I there any one who tried to plant this type of tree outdoors, Especially in Ontario Canada? More like in places, where winter sometimes hits hard. Thanks, Homestaymom
My sis-in-l planted one outdoor this summer. We do not have hard winter here but sometimes it drops low.
Read about hardiness and Asian pears in James Beutel's Asian Pears from "Advances in New Crops" posted online by Purdue Univ. In short, it might be possible if your area can grow Bosc pears and you have the proper rootstock. Seed-grown will almost certainly not have a chance outdoors anywhere in Canada.
I am in Québec and i have sow asian pear seeds 3 years ago and the trees have lived outdor for 3 years, they have bean damage by cold but they survived. Its a beautiful trees whith red colored leaf. i think you could tried it in southern Ontario. they sell trees at www.windmillpointfarm.com

Hello Palustris, Like I said, This email from My Ontario Asian Pear from seed, It's now over 3 feet tall still in a pot ourdoors. By the way hows your Quebec Asian Pear doing? Have a nice day, Homestaymom My Asian Pear is now over 4 feet tall. I' ll bring the plant indoors. Will plant outside next spring.
My asian pear have 2 or 3 feet high but they died over the snow level in winter. But they grows new stem at spring. they grows for 1 or 2 feet high.
I realize that this thread is several years old, but I have a very small asian pear seedling. I was wondering how your larger plants have fared being outside over the cold Ontario/Quebec winters? Also, have your plants produced any fruit?
