Coral, growing on the ground. It had a very
pronounced odor of chocolate when it was fresh, and after 2 days in my refrigerator, it still smells exactly like chocolate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I think it's Ramaria Pallida.

The shape and smell you've described distinguish it almost fool-proof.
Be warned that unlike some relatives of this family, it is poisonous, so
it's better not to preserve it in your food refrigerator !

    Regards

Thanks for the tip. I see that R pallida is giving mostly hits from Europe, is it common over there? do you find it much in Arizona?

I wasn't preserving it for food, I don't eat coral fungi, not a big fan. I was only keeping it around in case someone needed me to check for additional characteristics.

Well, if you take a trip to arizona you'll notice it is not so mushroom-friendly...anyway,
in my last trip to europe, I saw quite much specimens even if a little out-season.

I didn't mean you were preserving it as food, I was just warning you that it's a good
rule not to preserve poisonous substances/fungi in the same container/refrigerator where you do store food.

Have you been able to take a sporeprint from your specimen?

    Regards

Great, now I have to start smelling every coral fungus I encounter!
