Zingiber spectabile

    I bought this Zingiber spectabile ( beehive ginger ) two years ago.
    This is the first time it has flowered for me.
    It is growing in Virgin soil with no added fertiliser in the dappled shade of a Eucalypt tree next to my man made dam.

    Flowers look like butterflies.

    Yes they do Ron.
    It had rained the night before and all the cups were full of water.
    The flowers only last one day.
    And work their way up over a period of time.
    But always in pairs like my Pic.
