I'm a very novice gardener, was out "dead heading" my mother's rhodi's, noticed a white fuzz on a lot of the leaves. Several of these leaves had also turned brown, withered toward the end of the leaf. What is the problem? Thanks for any help

I Can make a few guesses, but all such situations really call for a picture. Really white fuzz could be anything ... insect ... fungus ... even cotton wood. I really don't suspect cotton wood, just making a point.
