Hi, found these on the forest floor and there were a lot fo different species and cultivars all over. I was hoping to germinate them and plant them next season. My problem is: I don't know the species, so I can't source germination and growth resources. This area was disturbed and replanted by humans, so I'm not sure if it is native or not.

I would venture two guesses: either vine maple (the native Acer circinatum) or Norway maple (the introduced (and invasive in eastern US) Acer platanoides) - but I'd encourage others to see if they can be more specific (or correct me).

Not Acer platanoides, the seeds are the wrong shape. I'd agree with probably A. circinnatum.

I think it's vine too--anyone know some good geermination and growing resources / protocols for these?

    Thanks,

Clip wings, plant in ground or pots and wait.

Norway maple is flooding a Seattle park ravine with masses of seedlings so it can sometimes behave in this fashion out here as well.

Any stratification requirements? How come clip the wings?

    Thanks, J
