Greetings from Ketchikan, AK! Found 5 clusters of these bug nests on our (white pine?). They are all at branch junctures and I know previous clusters in prior years have girdled the bark and killed the branch.

Anyone know what kind of bugs and other things I should be aware of? I'm thinking about washing them off with hose.

    Thank you!

Thank you salt cedar - sure looks like what we have. Thank you! I think I will try hand-removing them to start, hosing off the remainder. Happy gardening to you!

If I'm correct your find may represent a previously unknown population on the West Coast.
If you're so inclined you may want it verified by local authorities.

We've had one nest for the last 3 years - this year 4 nests... We have a couple of these trees/shrubs at another location. I will check for infestations there as well. Will also inform our cooperative extension service. Thanks again!
