Identification: unknown catapillar

    My maple tree has some catapillars eating the leaves.
    I have tried researching them but have had no success.
    Can you ID theses catapillars and advise how to rid my maple tree of them.

    Schizura concinna, the red-humped caterpillar.

    Very few records for it in Canadensys (Canada-wide specimen database), so it isn't particularly common. Follow the first link above for integrated pest management guidelines; it looks to be well preyed-upon by beneficial insects, so any sort of management should respect those critters. Note this in particular:
