there is a 15' arbutus tree on a jobe site that i am working on. if i leave the tree there it will be destroyed for sure. should i spent the time and energy transplanting it at my home,or will i just be killing it . i do have a peace of equiptment available to remove the tree.

Maybe if you can get a very large, intact soil rootball there is a chance.

The time of year factors into this as well. You're more likely to have a successful transplant if moved when well dormant ... February perhaps. Again like Ron B says, very large, intact rootball.

    Cheers, LPN.

If a spontaneous native arbutus seedling and not a planted garden variety, like 'Marina' or a strawberry tree then I wouldn't attempt it.
