Happened upon this beauty fluttering in spring breeze —- I suppose this is the first year it’s been tall enough to wave at us over the fence (subdivision built circa 2016)

On corner of Woodsworth & Payne Rd just north of Gibsons Park Plaza where the Akebono have faded tho some Kanzan look nice next to Starbucks

It's two years later now, and Wendy was right (posting #48 in Sunshine Coast/Gulf Islands thread date April 26, 2020).

Tree has been swallowed up, with only six crumbs left. I counted exactly six ‘Kanzan’ umbels (originating from the two skinny branches in the centre of the last photo).

I'm not sure it qualifies for a magical two-tone cherry tree.

I noted what I think is a going to be possibly a large tree with future « pruning » planted ambitiously next to this nice home near the huge water tank and duck pond in Gibsons

i went to see the Akebono next to duck pond and noticed this tree

    please correct my tree id

also @Willard - remember the pear tree blossom a couple of weeks ago along the long wooden fence and berm — I talked to the lady and she doesn’t know the tree name … she suggests that her husband planted it and he and the cat know the details :)

A light conversation while checking cherry petals - I am glad to have met her.

The Wine Garden on Gower Pt Rd is the perfect location to view ‘Shirotae’ next to ‘Shirofugen’.
Both trees are blooming now, side by side.

Miss Joy Cherry-Sighter and I went cherry scouting today.

Spotted these two deer and the lone ‘Kanzan’ in Robert’s Creek on Shani Place.

I saw a deer somewhere today too — maybe North Road

I notice so many elderly Kanzan around “west Howe Sound” (aka east Gibsons)

    1. 1171 Marine uphill on a driveway

    2. North Road on the hill just east of the “bypass” intersection —- that property has many gorgeous rhodos too thanks to Mr & Mrs Lindblom - I have attached quick photo from safely parked vehicle.

    3. of all places - while waiting in ferry traffic offloading — North Road on west side in the long-established BC Hydro substation (near Benjamin Moore paint store etc)

    4. i notice that while the Kanzan near Starbucks have been pink for perhaps a week — the rest of the parking lot Kanzan are becoming showy too today

    5. there’s a Kanzan on Reed Road on the north (mountain side of road) approx equivalent of two city blocks west of Payne Rd intersection (Payne runs north from Starbucks intersection). The garden this tree is in is long established by current owners, maybe since 1969 circa. Tho I think the tree is younger (a more recent adoption )

The twelve ‘Shiro-fugen’ at the Sechelt Visitor Centre are at peak bloom now.

Joy and I had lunch under the cherry blossoms today.

I found out from the person who planted these trees that they were installed 12 years ago, except for this tree which was added last year to replace a non-survivor. Apparently there is a supplier in the Fraser Valley with expensive mature cherry trees available.

Here’s another one. It’s easy to miss the ‘Kiku-shidare-zakura’ next to the ‘Kanzan’, but Joy spotted it from the passenger seat as we drove by. On Beach, west of Edmonds in Robert’s Creek.

There are two ‘Ama-no-gawa’ blooming now at St. John’s United Church in Davis Bay. On Davis Bay Rd, east of Simpkins.

Tree on the right is thriving, tree on the left is not.
    Both windswept.

Seems odd to be posting ‘Shirotae’ blooming in May, but I spotted these two young trees today.
On Chaster Rd, west of King Rd in Gibsons.
    Strange, but true.

Located on Sunrise Place, east of Harry Road in Gibsons. One of the better ones I’ve seen on the Sunshine Coast.
