Propagation: sciadopitys--japanese umbrella pine

    anyone have tried and true method of rooting japanese umbrella pines--how about soil type--temperature--moisture--etc

    I have not yet, but when I do I will try different methods, air-layering tourniquet or ring bark method. For cuttings I would use half perlite, half sphagnum moss, but humidity and temperature are the trickiest, and unless you have a good heating, humidifier and monitoring system, it's probably very difficult.

    thanks for the reply--stuck some cuttings in 50-50 perlite/pine bark fines--am keeping bottom heat temp approx 60 and have an automatic mist system which i have set on the dry side---will report results when appropriate---am told it sometimes takes 12-18 months to develop a decent root system
