Rhododendrons: Rhododendron "Avondale"

Discussion in 'Ericaceae (rhododendrons, arbutus, etc.)' started by Meresea, Mar 17, 2005.

  1. Hi! I am looking for a source of Rhododendron "Avondale". It's listed in the Greer's but they don't have it and weren't familiar with it. It is a cross 'Pygmalion' x haematodes x 'Wellfleet', medium height, red with black spotting flower. Olive green foliage. Is anyone familiar with it?
    Thanks!

I grow it. It's the red by Charles Dexter that has the least blue in it. It's a very red red. Because of that it clashes with many pink rhodies. It is not an outstanding grower in the northeast.
