    Hello people,

I have some seeds from some very delicious dates.

They are of the kind called mahdjool.

    really good.

How do i go around planting and growing them?

In the meantime i have planted a few in pots with draing holes on the bottom. I bought planting soil too.

its been almost 2 weeks since i planted them.

    Anyone know anything about dates?

    Or any informative sites?

    Thanks

    Ronen

I cannot tell you anything about the variety of date palm you got. And in my place (Germany) date palms are just house plants because they would not survive the winter. This is probably very different in Israel with its much warmer climate.
My wife has got some date palms which she got from the seeds and she told me that it takes about three to six months for them to germinate in a flower pot. So you'll need some patience. She also told me that it is advisable to use some extra seeds because not all of them germinate.

They germinate easily, but slowly. Patience is all that is required.

Bear in mind that the seedlings may not yield dates as good as the parent tree thay came from. If you want a named cultivar like 'Medjool', it has to be propagated from root sprouts.
