In The Garden: perennial plant id

    I'm one of those gardeners that gets a new plant and forgets what it is. Could someone please identify this for me? Its the one in the black pot with the palmate leaf.

    Filipendula palmata, purpurea, and ulmaria are in cultivation in northern California.
