MY dypsis albofarinosa that i germinated, ( this poor thing has been through a lot, constant changing of its placement, moving across the country and more). I thought that i killed it with the move becasue it seemed to stop doing anything. I looked today and poof, a new leaf is forming. So far it has 2 lol. Im assuming its a leaf a month or 2. very slow but really nice and rare palm to have in my house (unless i kill it ) lol

That's not slow! My Phoenix dactylifera is a year old, and still only on its 3rd leaf.

ya actually my phoenix caneriensis is a yr old and has its 4th leaf started. It was in a big yogurt cup with all its roots sticking out and inch or 2 out of the bottom so i jsut repotted it. I have talked to a few people about the dypsis one though, they have specimens that are 5 years old thats are barley a ft tall with 4 leaves :S, gonnna be a long wait lol

I feel that my Jubaea Chiliensis is so slow....Zzzzzzzzzz
Maybe I should just be happy it germinated.
I was impressed by the rate of growth on my Phoenix dactylifera. I have several that are only a few months old, and have put off a few fronds each.

Im sorry, i jsut relized that, i didnt know it was germinated untill around december. So that makes it a new leaf every 5 months :S now thats slow. HOpefuly the growth rare will increase. Ill probably keep it in the bag untill its got 5 leaves or so to make sure it has optimum humidity. Carol, i have been told by maney people that ur jubea is a slow grower but well worth the wait, especially if you are going to plant it outside. Mabey in 20 years or so it will have a trunk to it!

    Carol,
I have found that my Jub isn't that slow...have you tried talking to it? Kidding! My Jubs germinated in March and now are pushing their second leaf. I have them outside in a mostly sunny spot in 5" deep pots.

That certainly is a big pair of Jubs girl...where is that photo taken?
By the way just had a closer look at my wee little Jub...there is a second frond coming up, its small, by it still counts.
My Phoenix dactylifera palms on the other hand, just had to put them in bigger pots today, I can't believe how fast they are growing. Same goes for my Chamaerops.

The Chamaerops is outside, I gave it protection this past winter during the snowy periods. The Phoenix dactylifera are pretty young still, so they overwintered in the greenhouse. When they are bigger they'll go outside.
As for in my house, when the Chamy was just a wee sprout, it was inside for two or three winters, didn't seem to care in the slightest. I put it out for the summers.

Well I must admit, no one has ever told me I had a big pair of Jubs! Those two are growing in Cornwall, not my backyard, unfortunately:-(

I was tempted to ask how much a girl would have to pay to get a pair of jubs like that....but I didn't want to cross the line :)

Did a google image search and found the pics - seems they're in Wicklow (Ireland), and were imported from Chile

Depends on how big you want your Jubs to be I guess. I once knew a girl with a nice pair of Corgys, and the two dogs she had where nice too.

    Cheers, LPN.
