I occasionally run across Sarcodon imbricatus here (northen New Mexico, USA), looking pretty much like it does in the books. However, for the second time in 12ish years, I've come across what I think is Sarcodon imbricatus, but it's orange. Or is it another species?

    Hi Allelopath,

There are a number of orangey Sarcodons, as well as Hydnellums: I'm thinking we might need more features to sort this one, as well as seeing an older specimen perhaps. Also to know which orangey species in these genera are found in New Mexico.

    Some ideas: S.versipellis, S. subincarnatus, H. aurantiacum.

    Nice find!
