I noticed a plump green tentacle growing out of the soil of my orchid plant. It is turgid and vermiform, curling over the edge of the pot and tapered at the tip. Very strange! Is this the beginning of a new orchid plant, or a different species altogether?

No way to tell without a photograph. Sorry. What species of orchid?

Certainly was my guess too! But I'd first like to verify it is really an orchid. Many folks buy plants they think are orchids that turn out to be something else.

Thank you all very much. It is indeed a root. A healthy green root!
