First year seedlings. I will collect some more seeds this fall, keep them in the fridge all winter and plant them in the spring again. Hummingbirds and tiger swallowtail butterflies are visiting every day.. simply irresistible to them.
@Nik good evening N, you have started the Autumn colours off with a real bang !! Are these naturalised in the grass or are they in a border? Hope you don't mind me asking.
Hi D, these are in a large pot, sitting in a container filled with water. Some people actually use this plant in aquariums. It needs a lot of moisture. I will transplant them at the edge of the stream in our front yard, that is where I collected the seeds to begin with. Native plant, that is always the best way to go.
I placed the pot close to our living room windows/deck, to see the hummingbirds feeding. It really pulls hummingbirds out of the sky.
Sadly no, they are too fast... look up online Lobelia cardinalis and hummingbirds. You will have a good sense of the feeding experience...
@Nik Good evening N, it really does have the perfect name and such beautiful vivid photos !! So bright.
