Saw my bark forming a hill above the weed guard tarp stuff, so I pulled it back and found this plant. Any ideas? I'm from Seattle, WA.

One of the pictures shows a woody root or something that was cut off and is starting to grow back, but that might be a Rhodie I think. I do have horse tails (NIGHTMARE), so let me know if this is like the mother ship of the horse tail army and I should cut it all out. I'm winning battles, but the horse tails are winning the war. :(

    Thanks!

Sorry, don't know what it is, but it isn't a horsetail.

    Gort. Veringa. Klaatu barata nikto.

What make you think anybody could possibly ID that?

Would it be good in yanick sauce?

Always wear long pants and nobody will see your horsetail.

You think? It reminded me more of bean sprouts.

OK guys, that was really funny but not necessarily helpful. This stuff does appear to be growing off the piece of root, and I could actually be convinced that it is Dracunculus. However, more to the point is the question of why you have plastic covering your flower beds and Rhododendron roots.

Characteristic leaf shape and horizontal markings on stem sheaths all visible in these pictures. Quite a few gardens have this species here.

I don't have a clue what that is but if it were me, I would dig it up & pot it....if it's a horsetail or weed...get rid of it...if it's desireable, keep it.

Leave them where they are to flower and then decide if you want them. The flowers are large, somber and malodorous. If you like the curious and dramatic, you'll love these.

You are correct. It was the Vulgaris one. Awesome. I think I will leave the little guy. He just grows a couple of flowers each year and stays in his little section.

I attacked the horse tails today!! I took off the top of each of them (about 500 or so I'd guess...hours of time) and then sprayed roundup right into the wet open socket as well as fingernailing the base and coating it too. We will see how it works as I keep doing it. Will keep you posted!
