cutting off top of magnolia tree

    I just purchased a magnolia tree,is that ok if I cut the top off to make the tree shorter??? I want this tree to be less than 5 feet short. and if it is ok ,when is the best time to do it>>> thank you!!!!

    No! Magnolias don't tolerate pruning at all well. Realistically, you have to let them do their own thing.

    No magnolia grows only 5' tall. Plant a shorter-growing shrub in that spot instead, one that is suitable for the small space available.
