I have a question for all of you container growers. I am thinking of growing a JM that is outside of my zone, by putting it in a container, then over wintering it in my garage. The garge is attached to the house, but no direct heat. My question is do JM need some period of "freezing".
Does anyone have any experience doing anything similar?

Anything below about 40 Fahr. should be ok... is there a bright window there for when it'll need light in late Feb. onward for budding (but will still have to stay in til all danger of frost has passed in .. May?).

I assume that you are in Zone 5 (USDA Zone map for Michigan), so I thought that you might like to take a look at this thread here on the Maples forum. Perhaps this information may guide your choice of first cultivar for purchase.
