Identification: Conk Identification on red alder

    Can anyone identify what type of disease the alder has? The tree failed during the windstorm last week.

    Hi Ryan,
    Your first two photos may be of Turkey Tail (Trametes), and the third is a Stereum.
    One thing to know is that the mushrooms that you see growing on the tree may or may not be mushrooms of the fungus that caused the tree's downfall: Some fungi specialize in colonizing trees that are already "on their way out" due to another fungus or other cause of weakness in a tree.
