I have a 12 year old climbing hydrangea against an old cedar fence. There is ongoing construction on the property adjoining and the fence will be coming down. When, and how do I prune my prize climber?

If it has to be cut off to make way do that in time to have it cleared away for the job. Make provisions for it to not be trampled during construction. That includes the root zone.

Yes, it has to be cut off - what a pity - I'll have to provide some sort of barrier to keep it safe, thanks for the reply.
