I have a RECLAIMED wooden telephone pole that I put up in my yard last year. I would really love to plant a big wisteria vine at the base to make its way up the pole. The pole does not have any "hand holds" for the vine to grasp. Will the vine fall back down the pole because there aren't any horizontal supports?? I have seen this done with a trumpet vine and it looks amazing, but the trumpet vine has little rootlets to help it out. Any advice is helpful!

Can you whack a few nails into the pole? That'll give it enough to hold on to.

Thanks for the ideas. I have seen seen people plant a wisteria at the base of a tree and the vine has flourished and scaled a 10+ ft. (3.5+ meters) trunk without the help of any thing. would the nails be used for a support so that the vine doesn't slide down the pole or would the vine twine itself around the nails??
