Bought a Bing Cherry Tree from Walmart yesterday and planted it for earth day. It says we need another cherry tree for polizanation. My neighbor has a cherry tree. Will that work? It is about 25 yards from our new little bing cherry tree.

Trees of same cultivar do not cross, when these are the same clone it is actually just two pieces of same individual growing on different rootstocks.

A good excuse to buy another cherry tree to use as a pollinator haha.

Buy a multi-graft cherry tree which usually has four differnt kind of sweet cherries grafted on the main trunk (sometimes three sweet and one sour cherry). Home Dept sell these and may cost not more than $10 extra. I have one that has Bing, Rainier, Lapin and a sour type Montmorency (spelling?). Someday I may graft another type on the Montmorency but first I have to learn how to graft and then find scions.

    Hello johnkukulica-

I live in Reno as well and have planted a 3-in-1 cherry tree. It is a Black Tartarian, Emperor Francis and Red Windsor. I really like Rainier Cherries and may plant one of those near this tree this fall or next spring. Or maybe a Bing/Rainier/<other> 3-in-1..

How is/are your tree(s) doing? Does your neighbor's tree ever fruit, or did it not have a pollinator? How was your soil?

I am mostly curious how Cherries will do out here. I have not found a lot of great information on growing Cherries in our area. It would be great to hear what your experience has been! Thanks!

Sorry for bumping an old thread everyone, but I want to make some Reno contacts.. expecially ones growing cherries :) and I am a noobie to thie site..
