I have a small specialist plant nursery and am asked for acer trees in small pots. Can you please direct me to a source of seed of about half a dozen varieties suitable for growing in Scotland? Many thanks, Stella

Stella, if you are a specialist plant nursery, you should be aware that you will not grow japanese maples from seed which have the characteristics of the parent, nor, I believe, should they be sold as a named variety
You will get beautiful trees, of course, but cultivars are invariably propogated by grafting
Over here in Northern Ireland (just across the firth :)) I have successfully grown plants from seeds of osakasuki, suminagashi, acontifolium, atropupureum and bloodgood
I would think that almost every variety would grow for you if you can get the seed
But remember, you can not legally sell a seedling from Suminagashi as a Suminagashi
