I would like to know how to root Abies concolor cultivars by cuttings. Best time if year, specific hormone treatment, rooting environment. I have been told that the big conifer nurseries in the Northwest use this method of propagation.

Some conifers could be easily propagated by air-layering, but firs are on the most difficult side. Expect it to take more than one year. The recommended method is tourniquet. The key seems to be the patience, keeping the media (sphagnum moss or other) moist all this time, and I don't think rooting hormone would make much difference.
