I have a Yucca elephantisis which is getting direct sunlight from dawn until noon. I would like to know if/when it's ok to move this plant outside (in Vancouver) to take advantage of another few hours of direct sunlight.

I'm not sure how old the plant is but it is recovering nicely from being incorrectly placed in a location with insufficient light so most of its leaves are only a 4-5 months old.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. This is a fairly hardy plant. I grow them under an overhang year round in Seattle.

This species is not as hardy as your every day garden variety you see everwhere. You must have extremely well draining soil and be prepared to protect it in the colder days of winter. I would also put a rain cover over top of it during the winter.
Having said all that it can survive in Vancouver if you live in one of the milder areas, such as the west end or near the water on the north shore.
I know there are plants on Salt Spring and in Victoria that survived our last winter.
