I know of a Geranium (cranesbill) named 'Max Frei' and a saponaria. Any idea for whom the plants were named? Googling hasn't revealed the answer for me yet.

I don't know if the nursery listed herein introduced the plants in question, but Urs Baltensperger, owner of Edelweiss Perennials, Canby, Oregon, mentions on his website somewhere that the late Max Frei was his former boss. Perhaps the scientist involved with the Shroud of Turin inquiry.http://www.edelweissperennials.com

I saw the Shroud of Turin references when I Googled, but didn't believe that could be the guy. What an interesting thing if so.

Thanks. I will contact Mr. Baltensperger.
