"Trainable as a standard"

    I always thought that was where they train shrub or even vine plants into a little tree shape with one main stem. Usually refers to roses, but sometimes other plants. I think I have seen this with lantana for instance. I really don't get it, but...to each her own.

    thanks Eric. Found it in a search for street trees - may be a method for increasing the plant palette in that setting.
