This lowly fern has massive green potential

    And also serious invasive weed potential; e.g. Europe has a fact sheet (pdf file) about it, and Ireland has an invasive species action plan (pdf file) to try to deal with it, as does South Africa (web page).

    I've seen it a couple of times in Britain, where it occasionally becomes hyperabundant but does not appear to persist, usually vanishing again the following year after the infestation.

    Weediness would be an asset if the plant can be contained. As always no solution is without potential risks. Perhaps production can be moved to an indoor environment (i.e. greenhouses).

    Virtually impossible to contain a spore-producing species, you'd need micro-filtering on all water leaving the system. And constructing an indoor environment would immediately remove all the benefits of low input costs.
