Regarding the potatoes I planted in May ... the foliage is abundant, the plants are breaking 3 feet in height. The potatoes themselves however are barely 1/4 inch in diameter (I discovered when curiosity got the better of me and I pulled one up recently). Are things progressing as they should? Flourishing and healthy foliage and small potaoes?

fnh, do you know what variety of potato it is? I've done a little bit of research, and found that different varieties have a different rate of tuberization / bulking.

They do sound to be on the smallish side for this time of year, I have to admit.

Small potatoes could easily be the result of too much nitrogen or shade - resulting in overly lush top growth. The biggest potatoes are formed when the potato plant consists of a single stem. Multiple stems means more, smaller potatoes. Increase irrigation when plants are in flower.
