Phycomyces nitens under nyjer seed feeder

    Thanks to a post from 2010, I was able to identify a short black hair like fungus growing under my nyjer bird feeder (perhaps growing on bird droppings). Based on photos in the same posting on this site, I believe it is called phycomyces nitens. I don't believe the spores are considered dangerous to breathe but am not confident. My question is how to get rid of it. I actually removed all of it one day and found short hairs growing again the next morning. I have removed the bird feeder but wonder if anyone in N California has had a similar experience. It is very creepy! Thanks for any response.
