Mosses: Oil spill moss

    Platygyrium repens, or ‘oil spill moss’, shown here growing on acidic rocks. Most often it is found growing on tree trunks and rotting logs. It ‘hugs’ the substrate very tightly.
    It has a distinct ‘oily’ appearance when dry, even feels very oily and slippery to the touch.
