Are these mushrooms or lichens and what is their name, please? They are growing in colonies or clusters all over an area under a linden tree.
Do the little cups have little "eggs" in them? They look like some kind of Birds Nest fungi (Cyathus, Nidula etc)
I took a closer look today and there is nothing inside them. They are all over under a linden tree and growing on a substrate of old wood chips. They have toothed edges and are quite tough to tear open. They are dark brown/black with lighter edges around the rims. Any new guesses?
Sorry to be pesty...by any chance can you get more shots of these from different angles? Closer would be great too.
Hopefully, this will be ofg more assistance. I've added captions to indicate the parts. These are only about 1cm tall but grow in huge clusters. I found them under a white pine tree.
