hi, i have 3 small dwarf conifers growing in an undesirable position. They are about 5 years old and seem pretty established now. Can I or should i not attempt to move these trees to a better location or would i do too much damage? They have shallow roots right? thanks
If I know i am going to be moving a small tree or shrub the following year what I do is root prune around the outside of the tree while it's still in the ground. I believe this allows the tree to form a better root ball before actually digging it out. I use a trench shovel that has a long blade on it that can get deep enough about 12-18" down. I have had a good success rate so fare and the tree recovers faster after transplanting it to it's new location.
