Had a rather cool, rainy few days and as a result, some of the new leaves that are currently sprouting on my trees have a decidedly 'fall' look to them, with some beautiful shading, so I thought I'd share.

You inspired me to get out and take a few pictures this morning.

Acer palmatum 'Koto-no-ito' is leading in the race to peak fall colors this year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/japanesemaplegarden/8036489199/in/photostream/

Acer palmatum 'Sharp's Pygmy' is starting to show some color too, but is much further behind:

This looks like it is going to be a good year for color here in Central Ohio. Here are a couple of pics of my Acer japonicum (selected seed clone). Absolutely spectacular color in my opinion, and why I grow this tree. Other Japanese Maples in my garden have not colored up as much just yet, but our native dogwoods (Cornus florida) have been fabulous for weeks now already.
OK, I decided to send one more picture showing my own seedling I named Acer palmatum disectum 'Orange Flame' (not yet fully colored by a long shot), and behind it Acer palmatum 'Fireglow' (also still a ways to go before full color). But, they look great this morning in the low light and light rain.
I'll send more pics as some of my other maples finish coloring up.
    Enjoy!
