i have read on many a web site that the seeds from the american pitcher plants (Sarracenia) have to be cold stratifyed for 4-8 weeks before they start to germinate. Is it really nessary for them to be cold stratifyed for this long as have had to stratisfy seeds from a pine tree in order for them to germinate but that took 24 hours (and they germinated very rigerously after this treatment) could the same be true for the pitcher plants?
