I am surprised not to see this plant more often in gardens. I raised this one from seeds 5 years ago. It survived the bad winter of 2008-09.

Interesting vine. I've read (just now) that it's not common in garden centers because it tends to look shabby in the nursery pots before too long. Most people don't know the plant well enough to know that it will look great once it gets planted in the ground, so it just doesn't sell.

Can you tell me if it self-seeds prolifically like other Dicentras?

We have one in our garden. Have not spotted any seedlings.

Our Dicentra scandens is helped up into our pine tree with just one length of twine.

Hummingbirds visit regularly! Sipping from the dicentra and sitting in the pine.
