Update on this post, of these 5, 3 of them ended up perishing. They must have gotten too cold during transit. The "Hot Blonde" and 'Hot Tamale' were fine and have thrived.

"Wako Nishiki' and 'Bling Bling' lost all of their foliage and tried over two months to push new leaves that kept dying back.

The yellow cascade lost all of its leaves and pushed one new set of leaves before turning black and dying. I suspect that the shock from shipping and the subsequent cold, wet and rainy spring in the PNW was enough to kill it.

The nursery that sent the 'Bling Bling' will be sending a replacement, and the nursery that sent the 'Yellow Cascade' already replaced it. The new 'Yellow Cascade' seems to be doing fine while establishing over the last month.

I just wrote off the 'Wako Nishiki' as a loss.

So hot and dry.... my garden struggles on. Some of the maples have dropped their leaves, which is worrying, but there's also the happiness of seeing something bounce back and put out many little buds and new leaves. We are not yet defeated!

(And just because, the view from my little bench-swing. A sunny sky, warm air and the sound of running water. Very zen!)

I very nearly bought a Nakkai from Hippo recently but couldn't find out much about it or many photos etc. Looks like it's holding up well and doing more or less what the description on hippo says?

I really recommend Nakkai so far (Hippo is where mine came from!) -- like you I thought I'd take a punt on it despite no photos really being available, but it's got a lovely colour and doesn't seem to be suffering from the heat or the sun even in a fairly bright spot that gets sun until about 15:00. I'll keep posting pics, but if you have a space in your Hippo basket on your next order I'd go for it - it's a lovely little thing.
