Closely related to A. diabolicum. Flowers as a young plant, unlike its cousin. Here are some spring flowers: You last visited: Today at 04:57 PM
The colors are short-lived, sadly, but make an interesting progression: as the summer progresses, the leaves get darker and darker green, and finally veer towards a very dark red that looks almost black. Then over about 3 weeks the lighten to this darkish scarlet before falling. I find the dark red an attractive contrast but it isn't a classic fall color. It will be interesting to see if it changes as the plant gets larger. It was planted in the ground in 2006 but has only started showing any real growth over the last 2 years! Sinopurpurescens is apparently very difficult to get the graft to take, and again to establish, which may explain why it is rare in gardens.
