It still seems to be a bit of a mystery. Have sent the photo to the National Acer Collection at the Arboretum....see what they come up with....
I have now taken a photo of the Acer.............I have taken it with a normal Acer Palmatum Atropurpureum Dissectum behind it for comparison....

I have seen an Acer Palmatum, similar to Atropurpureum, but it has mush brighter, redder leaves which seem to stay constant through the Summer....
A friend has an unusual (to me) Acer Palmatum. Instead of the usual Atropurpureum colour of reddish purple, it is a bright red colour throughout...
I have recently acquired a good specimenn of Acer Palmatum Shirazz from B & Q of all places! It was not labelled as such but have had it...
