I'm running out of descriptions for these trees. Joseph has his name on a possible Oshima. This possible Oshima gets my name. I've named the photos Oshima, but I need to be convinced.

These are in McBride Park at 5th and Collingwood. From west to east, left to right, are the tree in question, a plum, a 'Somei-yoshino' and an 'Akebono' not pictured. These are the 'Somei-yoshino' on the left and the tree in question on the right.

In the comparisons with the Kits Beach Oshima, the McBride Park cutting is on the left - Kits Beach Oshima on the right. The differences I notice are that the bud scales on the Kits Beach tree are larger, the Kits Beach buds are white, and now with these cuttings at home in water, I find the Kits Beach cutting very fragrant but the others not at all (Douglas noticed a fragrance on a McBride cutting though).

Here are leaves from the tree in question at McBride Park at 5th and Collingwood. They are definitely not like the ones we're calling 'Syodoi' hybrids.

Nor are they like these leaves from the Kits Beach Oshima

Now I wonder if this isn't just a 'Somei-yoshino', though neither Douglas nor I thought it was when we saw the flowers last year. The close-up from last year's photo shows slightly fuzzy stems and calyxes. I'm adding more leaf photos from today. Are the leaf backs whitish? Could this be a real Yama-zakura? The leaves are rather small - maybe 12cm long at the most.

For comparison, here's the middle of the three cherries, that I thought was 'Somei-yoshino'. Maybe the leaves are different, though this middle tree has a lot of different-looking leaves just on this one tree.

Both of these trees are grafted, high, onto something that is not avium.
