Hi, im a student doing an assignment on tomatoes for school There are a few questions i am stuck on if anyone can help me with them What causes an increase or decrease of soil p.h? How do farmers regulate the optimum p.h soil for the tomato plant? And what can i do to reduce the effects of p.h of a change of p.h in soil? If you can answer these questions please reply.
The wikipedia link provided on Soil PH is a Good One and should be able to help answer most of your questions. As for farmers regulating the soil PH for their tomato crops, I would think that they regularly do soil tests with a P soil tester and/or lab analysis so to check for nutrients as well. Tomatoes seem to thrive in a P of 5.5-7.5.
