    @Willard
    @wcutler

I notice in the Sunshine Coast “Reporter” newspaper website today that the VCBF map is mentioned prominently at this time

    See attached screen image below

I think prominence depends on clicks and timeliness

Sunshine Coast Local, Breaking News - Coast Reporter

I believe this small newspaper is part of Black Press media group - so this VCBF mention is likely in several local publications from up on Whistler to I think NS News — one would need to look &confirm

‘Akebono’ on Inlet Ave in Sechelt. Somewhat pruned. There are numerous other ‘Akebono’ in full bloom now in Sechelt. Gibsons is a week behind (colder).

A slight departure fr your cherry scouting, I hope you don’t mind -

If you’re out admiring - go around Gospel Rock (Gibsons) to find these tiny wild beauties — we made a haiku for them ...

    Erythronium
    Brief blooms in roadside litter
    Granite rocks timeless

There’s usually a little spray scatter of them down a mossy glacial rock outcrop close to Pacific Ocean (Salish Sea) on thé side of a busy suburban road (hence the litter :(

I will see if I can get a photo or I might have one fr prev yrs

    They are magical

As this is linked to Cherries primarily, IMO it is fine for it to stay here. But perhaps we should keep to the topic of this thread for the future.
If you have anymore like this then perhaps 'Take a walk on the wild side' thread would be more suitable.

Love your last photo BTW and I will move it to the other thread, as it will get more watching this particular area.

    Oops! ferry traffic

(That’s a Friday commuter cherry ferry traffic haiku for Willard in Gibsons - who has noted the “pruning” around town. And the last line refers to when the huge BC ferry fr the other side unloads - it disgorges hundreds of vehicles and ties up the town traffic every couple of hours - so old locals have a saying “after the ferry traffic” (or before the ferry traffic - and avoid the slow 60k/hr on highway to Sechelt !)

Several ‘Rancho’ are planted as street trees in downtown Sechelt. This one is on SW corner of Inlet and Dolphin, next to a pharmacy serving AstraZeneca to 55-65 year olds.

Nice big ‘Akebono’ on Highway 101 and Whitaker as you enter Davis Bay from the south.

« A little peak at a couple of Lions today »
    (spelling intended for fun)

    What type of tree?

    ——
    2. I think this is an ornamental pear? Outside Rona on Shaw Rd in Gibsons

    3. I noticed the tree and Britannia Range reflection in hood of car so I put one picture in collage with its upside down copy

Third photo is the pear, Pyrus calleryana. Second one is 'Akebono'.
I wouldn't have realized that the first one was part taken on the hood of the car. That's a riot. We're getting some creative photos this year.

To be clear - the photo w pink trees shows two pix of same Akebono with The Lions (mtn peaks) in background

The tree w alder on left is closely next to the Akebono

Both are on the border of private property but clearly visible fr street

And they’ve so far escaped THE dreaded local haircut! :)

    Stunning view!

Glorious weather up on the Coast

The cherries, prunus, and other blossom trees (magnolias?) are amazing

Lots of people out walking, cycling, enjoying special times with their 4-legged friends

I saw something yesterday that inspired my amateur haiku style ... a little word painting of a pet and their guardian in a moment of their everyday routine - and also capturing the different ways species use their senses to experience nature’s beauty.

    Blue Pacific skies
    Folks gaze skyward at blossoms
    Leashed dogs sniff pink snow

Big old ito-zakura at 73 Newman Rd in Langdale.

A friend of mine in Europe identified the butterfly as Mourning Cloak.
Apparently they are endangered in Switzerland now.

I really like the photo of Mt Elphinstone under the blossom branch —- named for Lord Elphinstone who i think helped sponsor (invest in) Cpt Vanc sea trip to this part of the planet. Mt Elphinstone is even visible fr some of the waiting lounges at YVR.

Elphinstone Chronicles: No elves in Elphinstone - Coast Reporter

@Willard - have a look at the drive-thru side of Starbucks Gibsons - there used to be a couple of nice cherries (no hair-do) out that side - plus the many other trees at that mall plaza.
