On the side of the trail, found this glimmering white stuff.
At first I thought it is some sort of fungus with white mycelium.
After shooting for a while, I proceeded to touch, and the parts
I touch disintegrated. Could this simply be FROST. But this is
the first time I come across frost formation in such shape !
Sorry to post something which may be entirely unrelated to
    the forum topics !

It took me a while to come up with the right words, but "ice hairs" finally did it, though I think the term often used is "ice flowers". @Frog posted a link to an article on them three years ago:
Fungus shapes hair ice – Researchers identify fungus responsible for peculiar ice filaments that grow on dead wood. There are photos at the bottom - yours are just as good. Here's another from someone I follow on Flickr, with several more names for it:
Hair Ice Formed on Dead Red Alder Branch on Olympic Peninsula

So you win on this one anyway - even though it's ice, it's a fungus that's responsible.

    My, my !
You make my day, or rather night in the last hour of the day !
Sooooo, my suspicion comes true, though not mycelium, but
still has something to do with fungi.
Timing and temperature worked in my favour !
    Must buy 649 tomorrow !
