This photo was taken near crystal lake in South Tweedsmuir park early August, 2005. I was so excited to see this beauty, which does resemble the chocolate lily that I can find in the Nicola Valley. The roots are very similiar and do resemble rice grains.

This is the Kamchatka lily, rarer than riceroot (Fritillaria lanceolata).

    Thanks ROn,

I had wondered about the actual ID. SOme folks here call what I know as the chocolate lily, "rice root".

I believe that the reference for the Kamchatka lily, that ID'ed it as rice root, was the Plants of the Northern Interior, by Pojar, MacKinnon and Coupe.

I'm going by shape and presentation of open flower, inside coloring. You may want to do some more checking, I may be wrong.
