A few years ago I bought a houseplant that I hoped was going to be one of those showy orchid cacti. It consists of flattened stems with scalloped edges, jointed every three inches or so. They can grow very long - I had some stems several feet long.

Finally buds developed in the indentations of the scallops, but when they opened they turned out to be tiny yellow flowers - interesting, but not what I was hoping for.

Does anyone know what the name of this plant is? Thanks for any help!

It sounds like a Rhipsalis, if it gets little berrys after the flowers it is almost for sure.

Thank you for that information! I just spent some time searching the web for pictures of rhipsalis cacti, and I find that while some have round, pencil-like stems, there are also some with flattened stems like the one I have. So my search is narrowed down.
