Hi my name is Dean and my wife and I purchased a home with a Pink Dogwood tree in it, the bloomimg was very nice this spring. Now that the fall is here I was not sure about the pruning of the tree. Do you prune it in the fall or spring? Is there anything special about the tree that I need to know?

Dean--we planted our pink dogwood about 15 years ago, and I think we took off one branch that was growing really off on a bad angle. That was several years ago.

My point is that the tree has a beautiful natural shape, you will see it in the winter with it's grayish bark that's also pretty. I wouldn't prune it unless there's something getting in the way like we had...hopefully it's in a spot where leaving it alone is possible!

One other thing comes to mind, my tree is a florida rubra type. I'm not familiar enough with the kousa pinks to be sure that they grow the same, but ours is certainly very well behaved and looking good with very little help from us!
