I have a dogwood ( I don't know what kind it is and while I was outside today I had noticed the bark peeling off.

Now All that I know about the tree is the fact that is has large green/burgundy berry clusters and white flowers. The 'tree(s)' that you see in the photos are in fact the branches of the original dogwood (it was accidentally pushed over about 40 years ago when we were building the house). So this particulate dogwood is actually much older then I'm guessing...

It has lots of pods and buds starting on it already..and the peeling is at the base and up the tree on a few branches. Only one second of the whole dogwood tree(s) is peeling and the rest of the tree(s),which is very huge and goes quite a watch in, have no viable peeling.

So what could be wrong with my dogwood?

Very interested to see a response to this. as I have a mountain ash that has what seams to be the same thing going on.
